  Overview

New York has its Central Park, London has its Hyde Park, and Salt Lake City has its Utah Center – a park-like setting located in the heart of downtown, where visitors can stroll, people watch or enjoy area activities. The Center showcases various art projects, and contains an amphitheater, an ice rink and pond, and a huge outdoor chessboard. In addition to these, there are a variety of performance areas of all sizes, offering plenty of seats, intimate spaces, and vantage points from which to enjoy all sorts of entertainment.

The Gallivan Center is the place to come for exhibits, fairs, performances, poetry readings, debates, public gatherings, parades, festivals and holiday celebrations. In 2002 all eyes will be on the Center when it serves as the Olympic Plaza where medal ceremonies will honor athletes daily.
