  Overview

This park, with its funny name, commemorates the pioneers who traveled across the country to escape religious persecution, and settled in Utah. Brigham Young, founder of Salt Lake City and President of the Mormon Church, issued the statement “This is the place,” after reaching this spot.

This is the Place Monument marks the exact spot where pioneers entered the valley in 1847. Reconstructed pioneer buildings take visitors back to the days when pioneers lived here 150 years ago. Docents tell fascinating stories of Utah history and demonstrate life as it was then.

Only ten minutes from downtown Salt Lake City, this park has been called the Williamsburg of the West, and is a great place to take the entire family.
