  Overview

Traveling through and around Salt Lake City has been made easier recently with the addition of Utah Transit Authority’s light-rail service, TRAX (short for Transit Express). The service that began last winter was developed to ease traffic congestion in the city, and based on the electric trolleys that ran here a century ago.

The trains run Monday through Saturday between 10000 South in Sandy and the Delta Center in downtown Salt Lake. The entire trip takes 38 minutes, and costs $1 for two hours or $2 for a full-day ticket. Those who are only traveling in the downtown area ride for free. In fact, within the “free fare zone” visitors can ride buses and trains for free to and from hotels to the convention center, to shopping centers, cultural and historical attractions. It’s a clean, safe and efficient way to travel.

There are 16 stations along the 15-mile line, 11 of them with free Park & Ride lots. TRAX trains stop at stations every 10-30 minutes. Schedules are available at most public facilities or online at www.rideuta.com/schedules.
